Before you can hit the open trail, you will need to transport your UTV to the trail head. There is a proper way to load your side-by-side onto the trailer...and there are ways that increase the chances of problems and accidents.

Use the following UTV loading guide for a safe and stress-free experience. For more tips or to shop side-by-sides for sale, contact Arizona Honda. We are based in Snowflake, Arizona, and proudly serve those in Show Low and Holbrook as well.

Prepare The Tow Vehicle And Trailer

Pick The Right Spot

Find somewhere with flat and even ground. This will make the UTV loading process much easier!

Connect The Parts Of The Towing Unit

Then, hook up the trailer to your tow vehicle. Make sure the trailer is level. Add chocks in front of all the wheels, which will boost the towing unit's stability. Then, either lower the ramp (if it's connected to the trailer) or attach it (if it's separate).

Add The Various Connections

Next, it's time to hook up the chains, wires, and connections between the tow vehicle and trailer. The safety chains should be in an "X" formation under the tongue. Double check that the electrical connections and brakes connections are positioned correctly. Do a quick test so you can uncover any problems now...rather than having to do so with a heavy side-by-side already loaded up.

Get Your UTV Onto The Trailer

Drive The UTV Up The Ramp

Take a minute to put on safety gear, such as your helmet. There's a chance of an accident during this process and it's important to be prepared.

Approach the ramp with a strategic speed. Drive your side-by-side fast enough that you can get up the ramp, but not so fast that you'll overshoot your target.

Try to drive in a straight line as much as possible. This helps keep the UTV weight evenly distributed from left to right, which will help make the towing process more stable.

Secure The UTV

It's crucial that you secure the side-by-side. Otherwise, it can get tossed about during the drive!

Start by putting the UTV in park, then engaging the parking brake. Next, use straps to keep the side-by-side in place. Give the UTV a tug from different angles to double check your work, then add more straps as needed.

Use Safe Hauling Practices

Remember that the extra weight of the UTV will alter how your tow vehicle handles. It will take longer to come to a full stop, the turning radius will be different, and so on. If it's your first time hauling your UTV, you may want to take a few minutes to practice in an empty parking lot to get used to the setup. Then, hit the road when you are ready!
